The CAFOD Walk for Water

Here is a progress report from Sharon Jones, one of our parishioners who is doing the sponsored Walk for Water challenge on behalf of CAFOD

“In usual circumstances, a sponsored walk would have lots of us walking together, jollying one another along and keeping spirits up.

Taken before the wet socks!

CAFOD’s appeal to Walk for Water, 10,000 steps* a day for the 40 days of Lent which I am doing, is mostly accomplished alone. This has real significance. Abdella, living in one of the hottest places on earth, Ethiopia, doesn’t do a measly 10,000 steps, he must walk for 10 hours each day to collect life giving water for his family. Any money raised from this appeal goes directly to CAFOD and is to pay for a solar powered water pump to help Abdella’s community and others like it.

Thanks to all for your support, including the council workers I met today who were highly amused when I got ‘caught’ by a wave crashing over the pavement. The rest of the walk was completed in wet socks. Lol!
